Harrison K. Holdredge, 88, of Traverse City, passed away peacefully, on November 20, 2013. He was born on May 25, 1925 in Detroit to the late Harrison K. and Cecile A. (Barnhart) Holdredge.
Harrison graduated from Demby high school in Detroit and upon graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and is a veteran of WW II. He married "the love of his life" Carol Asmus, on August 27, 1949 and enjoyed 64 years of marriage together while also raising their 3 wonderful children. Harrison attended and graduated from the University of Michigan, earning a Bachelors and Masters Degree in Education. He was inspired to become a teacher in the Detroit public school system, teaching science and math, and received the highest honor to serve as the Principal of Western High School from 1963 until his retirement in 1983, when they relocated to Traverse City.
Harrison was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister; Jean (Barney) M. McCombs of Wicki Wachee, FL.
He is survived by his wife; Carol, daughter; Linda S. Holdredge, of Grand Rapids, sons; Harrison "Skip" (AeRan) K. Holdredge, of Clearfield, UT., John (Carri) A. Holdredge of Healdsburg, CA., 5 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
Harrison enjoyed carpentry and woodworking and together they built a vacation chalet on Cub Lake. He was an avid reader and was often seen at the local library. He loved music, and had a passion for playing the piano, and singing in his church choir. Many summer days were spent hiking and camping with family and friends, along the shoreline of the Pictured Rock National Park and trails of Upper Peninsula.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, December 3, 2013, at 11:00 AM at the Central United Methodist Church, in Traverse City, with a luncheon to follow. A visitation will be held one hour prior at 10:00AM.
