Harry Martin Carls, 78, of Traverse City passed away Monday, January 7, 2019 at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City.
Harry was born on Monday, May 27, 1940 to the late Rose (Lawbitz) and August Carls in Petoskey.
Over his working career, Harry was a lineman for several electrical co-ops. He soon worked his way up to becoming the manager of an electrical co-op in Minnesota. He enjoyed fishing and hunting and always raised a large garden which provided he and his family with a plethora of fresh food. He thoroughly enjoyed hunting for mushrooms, a hobby he passed down to his boys and was an active member of Lions Club and Kiwanis Clubs in the various communities he lived in over the years.
Harry is survived by his wife of 60 years, Virginia Anne (Bricker), whom he married on October 11, 1958 in Petoskey; his sons, Brian (Lori) Carls of Traverse City, Brad (Francine) Carls of Princeton, MN; his grandchildren, Melanie (Joachim) Current and Alexandra and Ashley Carls as well as his great granddaughters, Ava and Marielle. Harry is also survived by a brother, Jim. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, August and William.
A memorial service to celebrate Harry's life will begin at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 11 at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home with visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Petoskey at a later date.
