Harry Douglas Richards, 84, of Mancelona passed away with his loving family by his side at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City on August 19, 2016.

He was born in Mancelona to John and Creola (Howard) Richards on June 11, 1932. Harry married Joyce Rauch of Alden in 1949. To that union three sons were born. Doug (Bonnie) of Mancelona, Chuck (deceased) and Gary of Colorado.

Harry eventually married Dorothy Grody Scholl and four step-children joined his family. Roberta (David) Johnson, Arch (Cindy) Scholl, Julie Gassman all of Beaverton and Bob (Nancy) Scholl of South Carolina.

Harry spent his life as a Mason working many years for Barney Barber and Bob Dean. He taught his craft to his oldest son, Doug, and father and son worked side by side for years. A special bond was formed.

Antrim County reflects many of their large jobs and projects. He took pride in his work and it shows throughout our area.

Harry loved to farm and grow a garden. He shared his many vegetables with the neighbors, who have appreciated his kindness through the years.

Harry will be missed by many family members and friends. He is survived by several grandchildren and great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Brothers Bill Richards, Paul Richards and John Richards preceded him in death.
