Obituary

TRAVERSE CITY — Harry Wilson Roush, 87, lifelong resident of Traverse City, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2010, at Orchard Creek Supportive Care in Traverse City.Harry was born on May 4, 1923, to the late Wilson "Pete" and Hazel (Strait) Roush in Traverse City.Harry proudly served his country answering the call of duty during World War II. Harry served as a member of the United States Army, 38th Infantry, spending time overseas and becoming the recipient of a Bronze Star. Harry continued his faith to his service and his country as a member of the VFW Cherryland Post #2780. After returning home from the war, Harry entered into marriage with the former Opal Jeannette Fritz on Sept. 21, 1946.Harry made his living as a machinist working the majority of his long career for Cone Drive. He could often be found working out in the garage as he tinkered away fixing small engines or looking for his next mechanical project. Harry enjoyed spending time on the snowmobile and loved to go dancing with his wife, Opal.Harry is survived by his four sons, Gerald (Chelly) Roush, of Maple City, William (Maralene) Roush, of Maple City, Kenneth (Peggy) Roush, of Maple City, and Jack (Cathy) Roush, of Traverse City; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and many other loving family members and friends.Harry was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Opal, four brothers and a sister.Visitation for friends and family will be held from 5 until 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 6, 2010, at Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home.Funeral services will take place at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 7, at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home, with Marvin Rosa officiating.Graveside committal services will be held at Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens Memorial contributions may be directed to American Heart Association or the Alzheimer's Association.Please share thought's with the family at Harry's online guestbook at www.reynolds-jonkhoff.com.The family is being served by the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home.
