Obituary

Harry Dean Shinabarger, 97, of Beulah passed away on Monday, September 23, 2024 under the loving care of his longtime companion, Sally Berlin. Born on June 8, 1927, in Evart, Michigan, to Carl and Nina (Williamson) Shinabarger, Harry lived a life defined by service, hard work, and a deep connection to his community.

After graduating from high school in 1945, Harry answered the call to serve his country as a member of the United States Army during the Korean War. When he returned from the Army he married Josephine Dobrowski. They had three boys and they raised their family in a post-war suburban home in Flint, MI. Around this time he began a dedicated career at General Motors, where he worked in the skilled trades for over 30 years. Known for his leadership, Harry proudly served as a union steward, advocating for his fellow workers. One of his most cherished memories was meeting Walter Ruether, a UAW legend, at a union meeting—a moment he always held dear.

Harry was also a proud member of the Steelheaders Association, where he managed their scholarship division. Helping provide educational opportunities for others brought him great pride, as he deeply believed in giving back to future generations.

In his spare time, Harry was an avid outdoorsman who loved fishing and being in nature. He also enjoyed tending to his garden and keeping up with his yard, finding peace and joy in the simple pleasures of life.

Harry will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Harry is survived his son's Barry Shinabarger, Timothy (Lise) Shinabarger, grandchildren, Amy and Adam Shinabarger, two nephews Richard and James Shinabarger, his friend Sally, and many other loving family members and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his son Harry, and his siblings James, Margaret, Georgina, Marian, and Jack.

A private gathering for family and friends will take place at a later time. Memorial contributions may be directed to a charity of one's choice. Kindly share thoughts and memories of Harry at www.reynolds-jonkhoff.com .
