Obituary

TRAVERSE CITY — Harry Yost Jr., 83, of Grawn, formerly of Kalkaska, died Saturday, Sept. 17, 2011, at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City.Harry was born on Sunday, April 15, 1928, to Harry E. and Blanche E. (Jones) Yost in Deucher, Ohio. In 1950, Harry was drafted into the U. S. Army, serving in Germany as an engineer in a floating bridge building company.On Nov. 17, 1951, he married Joanne E. Saxton in Scottville. They lived in many communities across Michigan, residing in Kalkaska for 31 years prior to moving to the Traverse City area in 2005. Harry retired from Michigan Consolidated Gas Co. after 22 years. He and Joanne were longtime members of First Congregational Church in Traverse City. He also was a life member of East Bay Lodge 264 and a 32nd degree Mason, as well as being a former member of The Scottish Rite and a Shriner. Harry was a meticulous craftsman, always applying the same sense of pride and quality to whatever task he accomplished. He was a quiet family man, who deeply loved and was proud of his family, especially his grandchildren.Harry is survived by his wife Joanne of Grawn; his son Scott (Ginny) Yost, of Kalkaska; his daughter Sally (Phillip) Yancho, of Grawn; his grandchildren, Jesse and Graham (Brittany) Yost, Amanda, Joseph, Stasha and Hannah Yancho; sisters, Sue (Bob) Rechsteiner, Donna (Dean) Booth; and sister-in-law, Ethel Yost, along with many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brothers Thurman, Lewis and Millard Yost; and his sisters, Bernice, Dorothy and Betty.Graveside services will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 20, at Evergreen Cemetery in Kalkaska with Dr. Gary Hogue officiating. His family wishes to extend their gratitude to the wonderful staff at Munson Hospice, who cared for him and his family.
