Helen Leona Adler, 94 of Traverse City, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 1, 2013 at Munson Medical Center surrounded by her family.
Helen was born on June 22, 1919. She met her husband, Harold Milton Adler, on a blind date in Detroit. She married him on July 8,1944 in Fort Worth, Texas. Together they raised a wonderful daughter, Lee.
Helen went to Albion College and was a member of the Alpha Chi Omega Sorority. She earned her degree in Teaching. She taught elementary school for over 40 years in the Detroit Area and the Elk Rapids School District.
Helen enjoyed fishing and traveling. She especially enjoyed her trips to Beijing, China, Europe, Mexico and around the United States.
Helen will always be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, friend, artist and oil painter. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Surviving Helen, Harold her husband of 68 years, daughter Lee (Jay) Pyper and granddaughter Holly Pyper.
Helen is preceded in death by her parents and sister Betty Ball Thompson.
A memorial service will be held at 1pm on Sunday, July 7, 2013 at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be directed to Albion College or the Michigan Humane Society. The family is being served by the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home.
