Helen Theresa Schroeder peacefully slipped away on Father's Day 2015, at Munson Hospice House. She was born January 6, 1933 in Mascoutah, Illinois, to Frances (Overberg) Coffer and Carl Coffer.

She met Harvey Schroeder at Pontiac High School, and they married in 1956. She received her PHT (Put Husband Through) citation from Central Michigan University in 1959. The couple would have celebrated their 59 year anniversary in September. Together they loved entertaining, exploring Europe, watching birds and wildlife in their backyard, and nurturing lifelong friendships with classmates and fraternity brothers from Delta Sigma Phi.

Helen worked as a recreational therapist at Pontiac State Hospital and as a pre-school teacher prior to having children. Her greatest joy was being a stay at home mom to her daughters and subsequently their grandchildren. She loved summers on Long Lake and winters in Florida. Helen enjoyed playing games, meeting new people, collecting antiques and cheering for her grandkids at sporting events.

Helen is survived by her daughters, Teresa (Jeb) Lorton of Fishers, IN; Julie (Gordy) Sovereign of Traverse City; and Carolyn (Steve) Compton of San Antonio, TX; and nine grandchildren. She is survived by sisters, Pat Neal of Waterford; and Pam (Jim) Wallace of Elk Rapids.

A visitation will be held at The Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home on Friday June 26, 2015 from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. and Saturday, June 27 at 1:00 p.m., prior to the service. Helen's funeral is scheduled for 1:30 p.m., Saturday June 27, 2015, also at the funeral home. The Rev. Dr. David Gabel will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations made to Munson Hospice House. The family is grateful for the beautiful wooded setting filled with birds, squirrels and deer which became Helens' peaceful oasis in her final days.
