Obituary

TRAVERSE CITY — Helen Ida Vanderpool, 82, of Traverse City, died Tuesday afternoon, Nov. 15, 2011, at Munson Medical Center, comforted by her children. Born April 10, 1929, in Ferndale, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence Dickenson and Ella Ida (Raebel) Sloat.She is survived by her three children, Dale Popa and his wife, Kathleen, who was like a daughter to Helen, of Brighton, Marie (Don) Nolan, of Norwood Young America, Minn., and Roger Popa, of Traverse City; five grandchildren, Shaun Popa, Christopher Popa, Cody Anderson, Ashley Popa and Jessie Anderson; four great-grandchildren, Cameron, Jordann, Kaya and Zakary; siblings, George (Caroline) Sloat and Shirley (Jack) Borrie; along with many nieces and nephews.Helen was preceded in death by her daughter, Cindy Lee Popa; along with several brothers and sisters.Friends may call at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home on Friday, Nov. 18, 2011, from 6 to 8 p.m., where Helen's family will receive friends. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, Nov. 19, 2011, at 11 a.m., with visitation one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Jane Lippert from Traverse Bay United Methodist Church will officiate.
