Hilda Jedena, 96, of Leelanau County passed away Friday, January 25, 2013 at her home near Glen Arbor.
Hilda was born in Romania on March 10, 1916, the youngest of the large Gaschler family. Through the tribulation of WWII Hilda's family became divided as she found herself residing in a displaced persons camp in Austria.
She entered into marriage with the Ladislaus Jedena on February 25,1925.
Hilda was a tough, strong willed, and resilient women, who made it through the challenges and difficulties of the war to raise her family. In her self-sufficient nature, Hilda found true enjoyment working the soil and created a passion for her garden. Hilda grew everything from vegetables to berries and enjoyed the fruits of her labor, canning many of the items or adding them to her unbelievable baked goods. She was a remarkable and talented seamstress and was strong in her faith.
Hilda's memory will be cherished by her daughter, Lydia (Peter) Monahan and her son, Walter Jedena, many grandchildren, great grandchildren as well as other loving family members and friends.
A funeral Mass will take place at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, January 29, 2013 at the St. Philip Neri Catholic Church in Empire, with Rev. Zeljko Guberovic officiating.
