Hugh Donald Collier, age 91 of Traverse City passed away November 17, 2002 at his home. He was born in Chicago on February 8, 1931, the son of the late Hugh and Florene Collier, growing up in the shadow of Wrigley Field with his brothers Tom and James and sister Bonnie. A lifelong Cubs fan.
Following High School he honorably served his country in the U.S, Coast Guard and upon discharge, moved to Traverse City, where he met and married Sandra Taylor on April 10, 1954. Together they raised 2 beautiful daughters, Sharon and Memzie at their home on Center Road.
Hugh worked for 37 years as a machinist at Stromberg-Carlson in Traverse City. Upon retirement he and Sandy purchased a travel trailer and toured the country, with their most memorable trip being to Alaska.
Hugh and Sandy were long time members of Imanuel Baptist Church, where he was a Sunday School teacher for 27 years and a devoted deacon for many years.
In recent years, they faithfully attended East Bay Calvary Church, made many friends and were disappointed when the Covid epidemic disrupted their regular Sunday attendance.
Hugh was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who especially enjoyed spending time with his grandsons. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Hugh is survived by his wife Sandra of 68 years, daughter Memzie, son-in-law Paul Fitzsimons and grandsons Matt and John Paul Fitzsimons.
He was preceded in death by his daughter Sharon Fitzsimons in 2012, his parents and siblings Tom, James and Bonnie.
Funeral services will be held at 11am on Saturday, November 26, 2022 at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home with a visitation beginning at 10am. Graveside services will be held at 11am on Tuesday, November 29, 2022 at Oakwood Cemetery.
