Obituary

TRAVERSE CITY — Ignota E. Bussa, 94, of Traverse City, passed away early Monday morning, June 14, 2010, at Grand Traverse Pavilions - Aspen Wing. Born June 4, 1916, on the family farm in Kingsley, she was the daughter of the late Homer and Lola (Manigold) Ackerman. On May 5, 1937, in Traverse City, she married Joseph "Ken" Bussa, who preceded her in death on May 12, 1991. Ignota found love again and on April 18, 1997, married Justin "Pat" Paddleford, who also preceded her in death.Ignota retired from the Traverse City State Hospital after 17 years of dedicated service working as an attendant. She enjoyed wintering in Florida, along with fishing, camping, music, crafts, oil painting and traveling. Her greatest pleasure was teaching 4-H sewing and oil painting. She was awarded many prize ribbons for her paintings.She is survived by her two daughters, Carolyn (Ed) Swisher and Bonnie Young; sisters-in-law, Julia Ackerman and Edith Ackerman, all of Traverse City; five grandsons, Kennedy (Jane) Swisher, Darrell (Brenda) Swisher, Raymond (Sharon) Swisher, Adam Young and Levi Young; six great-grandchildren, Linda (Chad) Strang, William (Katie) Swisher, Kari Johnson, Jessie Johnson, Tonya (Charles) Ernest and Rexie Carawan Jr.; eight great-great-grandchildren; and one great-great-great-grandchild.In addition to her husbands, Ignota was also preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Morgan; and two brothers, Kolen and Claire Ackerman.Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life service will be held at Christ United Methodist Church, 1249 Three Mile Road, Traverse City, on Saturday, July 3, 2010, from 2 to 4 p.m.In remembrance of Ignota, memorials may be directed to Hospice of Michigan or to the Cherryland Humane Society.
