Inara "Muts" Kurt of Traverse City, age 74, passed away suddenly on Tuesday November 14, 2017 doing something she loved dearly, working in her garden.
Inara was born in Riga, Latvia on November 25, 1942. She and her family immigrated to Grand Haven, Michigan in 1949.
Inara received a bachelor's degree from Western Michigan University, a master's degree from Central Michigan University, and served passionately as a teacher for over 40 years, specializing in Civics and History at West Middle School.
Inara was an Educator of the Year, a founding member and Membership Director of the Traverse City Community Garden, a Lector at Immaculate Conception Church, and served as Voter Service Co-Chair of the League of Women Voters of Traverse City.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Arvis. She is survived by her beloved husband of 51 years, Alan, her sons Michael and Eric, her Grandson Jack, and many loving friends.
A visitation will be held at Immaculate Conception Church on Monday November 20th at 10am, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 11am. The Rev. Fr. Christopher Jarvis will preside.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Immaculate Conception Food Pantry, 308 N. Cedar Street, Traverse City 49684 or the Traverse City Community Garden P.O. Box 875, Traverse City, MI 49685.
