Ira Martin Wasserman

Ira Martin Wasserman passed away Monday June 7th, 2021. He was born December 20, 1935 in Carbondale, Pennsylvania to Harry and Lillian Wasserman.

Ira graduated with his PhD in sociology from University of Michigan and taught as a professor at Eastern Michigan University. Ira and his wife Carole left Ann Arbor, Michigan to retire in Traverse City, Michigan. Ira is remembered for his love of travel, his love of running, biking and hiking as well as his passion for the outdoors.

During his time in Traverse City Ira was a volunteer for the Tart Trails, Meals on Wheels, the Film Festival, the State Theatre, The Watershed, and the Cherry Festival. Ira was a long-time active member of the TC Newcomers group.

Family and friends remember some of his quirky ways which include using travelers checks for domestic travel, his love of salad bars and buffets in general. Ira's domination at trivia games. Ira collected briefcases, coins, thermoses, typewriters, screw drivers, pocketknives and could never pass by a gray windbreaker without purchasing it.

The family would like to thank the amazing and compassionate care givers at Cherry Hill Haven, and Hospice of Michigan for the exceptional care they gave Ira.

Ira is survived by his wife Carole (nee Feibusch) his daughter, Rachel, his son Daniel (Jennifer) grandchildren, Lily and Henry
