Traverse City - Irene Lucille Cole, 88 of Traverse City passed away May 22, 2012 at Allegiance Hospital in Jackson.
Irene was born on January 8, 1924 in Oklahoma to the late Victor and Lavica (Houston) Davis.
Irene was a survivor of the 1937 New London School Explosion in Texas and later, after the school was rebuilt graduated in the early1940's.
While working at a theater, she met her future husband Dr. Kenneth L. Cole who was attending flight school for the Army Air Corp. They were married in 1944 and together they raised four children. In her spare time Irene enjoyed playing golf and bridge. She was also an excellent cook. She was a member of the Church of Christ, the Order of the Eastern Star, and the Ladies Auxillary of the Optimist Club. She will be greatly misssed.
Irene was preceded in death by her husband Dr. Kenneth L. Cole, grandson Curtis Breton, brother John Davis and her parents.
Irene is survived by her children Kenneth (Inga) Cole Jr., Victor (Belinda) Cole, Connie (Fred) Breton, and Jerry (Denise) Cole, grandchildren Erich Mies, Jennifer (David)Teesdale, Richard (Mandy) Cole, Regan (Mark) Twardokus, and Kimberly (Larry) Dillay, and ten great grandchildren and sister Helen Morris.
Visitation will be held on Friday, May 25 from 4 to 7pm at the Reynolds Jonkhoff Funeral Home.
The funeral celebrating Irene's life will take place on Saturday, May 26, 2012 at 2:00 pm at the Church of Christ. Burial will follow at Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens.
Memorial contributions in memory of Irene may be directed to the American Heart Association.
