Irene N. (Corpe) Riskey, 94, of Traverse City, passed away Saturday, August 16, 2014 at the Grand Traverse Pavilions

Irene was born on Monday, August 18, 1919 to the late Lloyd and Edith (LaPlant) Morse in Traverse City and had been a resident here her entire life.

Irene married Duane Corpe in January of 1936 and together they raised their daughter Gail and son Stuart. Duane preceded her in death in October of 1981. She married Leo Riskey on April 9, 1983 and he preceded her in death in June of 1999.

Throughout the years, Irene was active in her children's school activities, 4-H, Girl Scouts and many community activities. She and Duane were among the founding members of the East Bay Volunteer Fire Department, where she was one of the first "fire gals" and they were members of Bethlehem Lutheran Church. They spent many hours in the woods - deer hunting, mushrooming and enjoying the birds and wildlife. After Duane's death, Irene became very active in the Traverse City Senior Center and its Kitchen Band. She was also a member of the TCAPS retired employees organization, having retired in 1981 after 22 years as a cook at TC Central High School and was a member of the Audubon Club.

Irene is survived by her son Stuart (Carol) Corpe of Traverse City and their children, Jeb Stuart (Gemma) Corpe of England, Barry Duane Corpe and Leslie Gail Vreeland-Corpe, of Traverse City; her grandchildren, Rory (Julie) Umlor, Michelle Umlor, Melanie (Art) Schneider; Denise (Harold) Grant; stepson Terry Riskey of Wisconsin and stepdaughter Pam Patrom of Florida; great grandchildren, Christina (Ross) Kniffin, Eric Umlor, Colin Schneider, Andrea (Rene) Vega, Danielle Arzola, Michelle Corpe, Christian and Kaitlyn Vreeland; step grandchildren, Rod and Scott Riskey, Chris Brugger and Tarra Benson; great-great grandchildren, Gracie, Matthew, Dalton, Brady, Ava and Sarah; son in law Jerry (Elaine) Umlor, step daughter in law, Sharon Riskey, many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her husbands, Irene was preceded in death by her daughter Gail Umlor, step son Rodney Riskey; brothers, Ralph, Roy, Blair and Dale Morse; sisters, Velda Carlson and Jean Nicholson; great-grandson Chase Stuart Vreeland and great great granddaughter Amaya Vega.

Visitation for Irene will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 23 at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home with the funeral service beginning at 2 p.m. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the East Bay Volunteer Fire Dept, the Traverse City Senior Center or Bethlehem Lutheran Church.
