Irene June Ockert

Irene June Ockert, 88, of Traverse City, passed away at home on Thursday, April 7, 2022 surrounded by her loving family.

Irene was born on May 7, 1933, in Munising, MI to the late Alger and Bernice (Liter) Humphrey. She married Albert "Al" C. Ockert on Saturday, December 25, 1954 in Traverse City. Together they lovingly raised four wonderful children.

Irene was a devoted family member for her whole life. She raised many of her siblings growing up and could do most things around the house. She was a devoted homemaker and enjoyed taking care of people. Up until a few years ago she was found fixing something on the roof with a proud smile on her face. She was a wonderful wife, mother, sister, grandma, great grandma and friend. She will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved her.

Surviving Irene are her children, Angie Ockert, Teresa (David) Gottwald, Kevin Ockert, all of Traverse City; her grandchildren, David Lopez, Shannon Lopez, Ashley (Steven) Bankey, Amanda Lopez, Alexander (Chole) Lopez and Andrew Lopez and many great grandchildren. Also surviving is her former son - in law, David Lopez of Traverse City.

Irene is preceded in death by her parents, beloved husband Al, son Daryl and many siblings.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the VFW Post 2780 or a charity of one's choice. Visitation will be held from 4-7pm at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home on Tuesday, April 12, 2022.
