TRAVERSE CITY — Irma Katherine Henion, 93, of Traverse City, went home to be with the Lord she loved on Thursday, April 14, 2011, at her home in Traverse City.Irma was born on Friday, April 27, 1917, to the late Scid and Lavinia (Lindley) Nelson on the family farm on Otto Road in Bingham Township of Leelanau County. She married Charles F. Henion on Wednesday, May 24, 1933, in LaGrange, Ind., and together they would spend 64?½ years together before Charles' death on Dec. 4, 1997. They spent 40 of those years on their farm.Irma was a member of Bible Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school for many years, as well as being active in the Seniors Class. She loved to sing and sang for many funerals over the years. Prior to moving to Traverse City from the Keswick area, she had directed the church choir at Keswick (EUB) United Methodist Church. Irma was a PTA volunteer as well as a member of the Ladies Aid,the Extension Club and had received an award for volunteering at The American Cancer Society for 25 years.Irma is survived by her children, Nancy Henion, of Traverse City, Leann (Ronald) Johnson, of Big Rapids, Eric B. "Rick" Henion, of Traverse City, and Jill Petersen, of Traverse City; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, Irma was preceded in death by her parents; a grandson, Matthew Johnson; and a sister, Ella Downs.Visitation for friends and family will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, April 18, at The Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home.Funeral services will take place at 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 19, at Bible Baptist Church, 1915 Cass Road, Traverse City, with Pastors Joel Brown and Steve Dodd officiating.
