Ivan Victor "Vic" Dornan, 82, of Traverse City, entered into eternal life Sunday, January 25, 2015, at the Victorian Inn Assisted Living Facility in Traverse City.
Vic was born on Sunday, May 8, 1932, to the late Neita Mae (Ball) and Ivan Russell Dornan in Eaton County, Michigan. He served our country as a member of the U. S. Navy, from 1949 until 1953, on submarines. On Saturday, June 14, 1952, in Lansing, he married the love of his life, Kathleen Joyce Shumaker.
Vic had been a police officer in Charlotte, MI. He also worked in electronics, radio and tv repair. He assisted the Traverse City Police Department through the CETA program. Vic was a member of Living Hope Assembly of God Church, in Traverse City. He was a collector of radios, enjoyed camping, fishing, farming and traveling in the motor home to visit his children.
Vic is survived by his wife of 62 years, Kathleen; his children, Michael (Paula) of Thibodaux, LA; Victoria (Bruce) Brown of Traverse City; Gregory (Carol) of Taylorsville, NC; Susan (Mike) Stacey of Myrtle Beach, SC; 14 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and a sister, Betty Snow of Charlotte, along with several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Vic was preceded in death by a daughter, Patrice Dornan, and a sister, Bonnie Harris.
Vic will be inurned at Maple Hill Cemetery in Charlotte, MI, at a service to be held in the spring.
The family suggests that memorial contributions in Vic's name be directed to the building fund of Living Hope Assembly of God Church, 3050 South Airport Rd. West, Traverse City, MI 49684.
