Jack Eugene Hoxie

Jack Eugene Hoxie, 93, long time resident of Traverse City passed away on April 18, 2019 at Munson Healthcare Hospice House. Jack was born on November 25, 1925 in Leelanau County to the late Warren Harland and Alice Marguerite (Witkop) Hoxie. On October 9, 1948 Jack married Doris Frances Gonder in Traverse City. Jack was retired from Michigan Bell Telephone Company and is a US Army Veteran where he served as a medic in 1945 and 1946. Jack enjoyed walking the paths on his 40-acre farm. The paths are all named after his grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great granddaughter. He also loved to garden, carve ducks and walking staffs, refinish furniture, fish, camp, cut fire wood, and in later years watch the birds at the many birdfeeders he built. Jacks greatest joy though was spending time with his family. He was a Christian and very much cherished his faith and family. Jack is survived by; daughter, Judith (James) Horton of Traverse City; son, James (Linda) Hoxie of Spearfish, South Dakota; daughter, Janet (Steven) Huffman of Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina; grandchildren, Vicki Horton, Jason (Kirsten) Horton, Benjamin (Dessie) Hoxie, Kristine (Ryan) Anderson and Margaret Huffman; great-grandchildren, Kassidy, Levi, Carson, Konnor, Nathaniel, Olivia, Perrin and Rhett; great-great-granddaughter, Adeline; and brother, Bill (Clarice) Hoxie of Traverse City. Jack was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Doris, of nearly 66 years and sister Wanda (Norm) Crampton of Traverse City. Interment will be held at a later date at Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions in Memory of Jack may be directed to the Hospice House or to Grand Traverse Commission on Aging. The family is being cared for by Reynolds Jonkhoff Funeral Home.
