Obituary

Jacob Wencil Kolarik, 92, of Traverse City, died Sunday, February 1, 2015, at Tendercare-Traverse City.

Jake was born on Tuesday, July 4, 1922, to the late Wencil and Molly (Kirt) Kolarik at Gills Pier. On Tuesday, January 6, 1942, he married the former Rosella LaCross at Gills Pier. She preceded him in death. On Wednesday, April 19, 1970, in Traverse City, he married Marge (Margaret) Schmuckal, who also preceded him in death.

After farming, Jake worked for 21 years at Parsons Corporation, 5 years at Prutsman in Suttons Bay, and several other small shops. He was a life member of VFW Dads Post #73, where he held a term of each office. He was also a member of the American Military League and was well known in Kings Court, where he had lived and was always willing to help his neighbors.

Jake is survived by his daughter, Sharon (Dick) Strand of Madison, WI; two step-sons, Thomas (Denise) Schmuckal of Traverse City and Kenneth (Linda) Schmuckal of Texas; one granddaughter, six step-grandchildren, 13 step great-grandchildren and his sister Elsie Zelanger. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Art, his first wife Rosella, second wife Marge, daughter Carol Sleder and step-son Robert Schumuckal.

Graveside services will be held at Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens, in the spring, with the date and time to be announced at that time.
