Traverse City-Jacqueline Ann "Jackie" Dundon, 84, a retired Registered Nurse of Traverse City, died Tuesday afternoon, May 15, 2012, at Munson Hospice House surrounded by her loving family.
Born December 26, 1927 in Saginaw, she was one of five daughters, born to the late William P. and Angela G. (Guelfo) Kennedy. On February 1, 1974, she married Arthur F. Dundon, M.D. in Traverse City.
While living in the Saginaw area, Jackie attended and graduated from Saginaw General School of Nursing in 1948. Following her move to Traverse City, she worked at Munson Medical Center for 5 years as a Registered Nurse. She later worked for 25 years as a office manager for Dr. Bernard "Bud" Sweeney, a position she thoroughly enjoyed.
She was a long standing member of Grand Traverse Bay Power and Sailing Squadron, where in 1988 she served as their first female Commander. She continued maintaining membership and education records for the squadron for many years.
Her zest for an active life, led her in many directions. including roller skating, skiing, sailing and shopping, She was active in the Cherryland Amateur Radio Club operating with a technician license class. Her call sign was N8KVY.
She enjoyed hosting parties, as well as promoting lively discussions with family and friends around the table.
Jackie will be fondly remembered for her gentle heart, gracious spirit, her devotion to her family and her ever present concern for the welfare of others.
She is survived by her husband of 38 years, Arthur F. "Art" Dundon, M. D. of Traverse City; seven children, Wayne (Jennie) Walters of Chesterland, OH, Gus Dundon of Traverse City, Kathy VanKlompenberg of Durham, NC, Tom Dundon of Traverse City, Debbie (Don) Thornton of Traverse City, Amy Coppens of Escondido, CA and Matt (Iwona) Dundon of Nowy Targ, Poland; 11 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren; along with many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life gathering will take place on Monday, May 21, 2012 from 3:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the Traverse City Elks Lodge, A brief Service with a sharing time will take place at 6:00 P.M. Refreshments and finger food will be served.
Cremation has taken place.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Fr. Fred Foundation or to Munson Hospice House. Envelopes may be obtained at the gathering.
