Obituary

Jacqueline Ann VanDusen, 91, of Traverse City, passed away Friday, December 29, 2017.

Jacqueline was born on June 25, 1926 to Seiber and Florence (Kreutziger) Reno in Detroit, MI. She married Charles Ross VanDusen on May 15, 1948 at Redford Lutheran Church in Detroit. During World War II, she served as a secretary for a lieutenant colonel in the War Department. She later worked in the personnel office of Hudson's Department Store in Flint, MI, and walked in the Hudson's Detroit Thanksgiving Day Parade five times. She and Charlie moved to Traverse City in 1979 where they operated two gift shops, Waters Edge Gifts and Swan's Nest Gifts.

She will be remembered for her kindness and love for her family, especially her grandchildren. Jacqueline enjoyed meeting and speaking with people and found a new friend in everyone she met. She was the common thread in keeping her family connected, and loved talking on the phone and writing letters. Jacqueline enjoyed watching nature, especially birds, and walking along the beautiful beaches of Michigan and Florida collecting stones and shells.

She is survived by her children James (Susan) VanDusen, Lynne (Patrick) Borer, and John (Karen) VanDusen; grandchildren Katie (Matthew) Trevor, Amy (Paul) Sutherland, Melody (Daniel) Tincknell, and William (Susan) VanDusen; nine great-grandchildren; and four sisters Marilyn Comb, Shirley (Ken) Hurlin, Margery Johnson, and Betty Lou McKinlay.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and two brothers, Thomas Reno and Richard Reno.

Per Jacqueline's wishes cremation has taken place. Memorials may be directed to the Salvation Army, which brought joy to Jacqueline's family during the Great Depression. A celebration of Jacqueline's life will be held in the spring.
