Obituary

James Lewis Carter, 82, of Cedar, Michigan, was called home to his Heavenly Father on April 22, 2025, passing peacefully in the embrace of his cherished home and beloved family.

Born on September 5, 1942, in Pontiac, Michigan, Jim lived a life radiant with love, faith, and service. He proudly served in the United States Air Force, embodying honor and duty. As a devoted teacher-Counselor in San Diego, California. Jim inspired young minds with his wisdom and compassion, leaving a lasting impact. Returning to his beloved Michigan, he settled in Cedar and Traverse City, where he shared his passion as a golf pro and found his greatest joy in marrying his soulmate, Gwyn Kroupa, the love of his life.

Affectionately known as Jim, he was a beacon of warmth, kindness, and unwavering faith in God. His deep devotion to the Lord guided his every step, inspiring others to live with grace and gratitude. Jim's gentle spirit, infectious smile, and generous heart touched countless lives, creating a legacy of love that will forever resonate in the hearts of those he held dear.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Royce and Alice Carter, and his brother, Ford Carter. He leaves behind his adored wife, Gwyn (Kroupa) Carter, his heart's delight; his cherished stepchildren, Holly (Jason) Wilson, Sam (Michael) Felis, and Daryl Anderson, whom he loved as his own; his treasured grandchildren, Silas, Lindie, Jayden, Gemma, Rosie, Colton and MJ - who filled his days with joy; and his dear siblings, Royce Carter, Mike Carter (Jo), and Connie Rumbach (Tom), Sister in-law Bonnie Carter. FIL- Gary (Lori) Kroupa, Terrie (Loren) Dickenson, Gary Bear (Kim) Kroupa, Shirley (Shane) Gray, Michael (Laura) Kroupa. Many, many nieces and nephews. His Very Special Friends Todd Mackraken of San Diego, CA, Joe Ream of Eugene, OR, and his beloved dog Abbie. His family, united by love and faith, will carry his memory with devotion.

A memorial service to honor Jim's beautiful life will be held at Mt Zion FWC 4950 Silver Pines Rd, Traverse City, MI 49684 on June 21st 2025, at 11:00am. Donations are welcomed to Traverse City Junior Golf Association or Mt Zion FWC.

Jim's radiant love and steadfast faith will live on eternally in the hearts of his family and friends. Now resting in God's peace, he watches over those he loved so dearly, his legacy a testament to a life well-lived in faith and devotion.
