James Curtis DeWitt, 56, of Traverse City passed away April 4, 2018 at McLaren Northern Michigan with his family by his side.
Jimmy was born on March 11, 1962 in Jackson to the late James and Carolene DeWitt.
In his younger years Jimmy enjoyed fishing, camping and fixing up cars. He was self employed and maintained yards in his community. In his free time he enjoyed volunteering at the State Theatre and for the Traverse House at Community Mental Health.
He loved his Shih-tzu Emily. Hulk Hogan was one of his favorite wrestlers and he loved to cheer him on. Jimmy also liked to play video games. Above all else, he loved being with his family.
Jimmy is survived by his daughter Amanda (James) Gibb of Grawn and son Micheal (Jessica) DeWitt of Traverse City; sisters Darlene Johnson of Jackson, Mary DeWitt - Kontos of Jackson, Dawn Trumbull of Maple City, Gloria DeWitt of Interlochen, Dede deManigold of Traverse City, Ethel Huggins of Traverse City and Salina Buckner of Jackson; and his care taker and friend Sue Schmuckal.
Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents and brother Dean DeWitt.
The memorial service will be held on Friday, April 13, 2018 at 11:00 am at Reynolds Jonkhoff Funeral Home.
He will be interred at Rose Hill Cemetery in Leelanau County in the spring.
Memorial Contributions may be directed to Haven of Hope Church or to the Traverse House at Community Mental Health or to Cherryland Humane Society.
