TRAVERSE CITY — James R. "Jim" Elsenheimer, 100, a lifelong resident of Traverse City, died early Wednesday morning at Birchwood-Tendercare of Traverse City.Born April 19, 1911, in Traverse City, he was one of 11 children of the late Jacob and Mary (Muller) Elsenheimer. On July 6, 1935, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Traverse City, he married the former Virginia R. Janowicz, who preceded him in death in May of 2001.He was a faithful and longtime member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Jim owned and operated Jim's Electric Service in Glen Lake and was a long-standing and founding member of IBEW #498. His work ethics were outstanding as he conducted his business in an honest, trustworthy and friendly manner. He possessed a unique eye for correcting electrical problems, but also was known for his ability to fix anything. His motto was, "Don't let anything go to waste."Jim is survived by his children, Donna (Ken Finch) Basch, of Traverse City, Daniel (Barb) Elsenheimer, of Statesville, N.C., and Eugene (Patty Pike) Elsenheimer, of Charlevoix; nine grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; siblings, Henrietta, Irene, Mildred and Richard; along with many nieces and nephews.In addition to his wife, Jim was also preceded in death by siblings, Bernadette, Harold, Arthur, Lewis, John and Robert.Friends may call at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home today, April 29, 2011, from 6 to 8 p.m., where the Elsenheimer family will receive friends. A funeral Mass will be offered at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church on Saturday, April 30, 2011, at 11 a.m., with visitation one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Ruben Munoz will serve as the celebrant. Burial will take place at a later date in Oakwood Catholic Diocesan Cemetery. In remembrance of Jim, memorials may be directed to the Father Fred Foundation.
