Obituary

Leelanau County – James (Jim) Reginald Harris, 75, of Leelanau County passed away peacefully on January 4, 2017 at his home in Cedar, MI surrounded by loved ones.

Jim was born on June 13, 1941 in Cottage Hospital, Grosse Point. He was the third child of David George, and Margaret Fernie (Baird) Harris. He had one brother and one sister, David Lloyd Harris and Janet Mary Harris.

He married Mary Anna Sumners in St. Jude Church, Detroit in 1963. He had four children with Mary: Teresa Ann Harris, James Reginald Harris Jr., Nicole Janet Harris, and Guy David Harris.

His wife, children, and grandchildren were very special to him. He is survived by his wife Mary, children Teresa Woods, James Harris Jr, Nicole Hulet, son-in-law's Jack Woods, Jason Hulet and Matt Drew, daughter-in-law's Sandra (Harris) Linden and Lisa (Harris) Drew , grandchildren, Guy Patrick & Charles (Chip) Woods, Caitlin (Woods) Tracy, Manon Harris, Ashley & Emily Hulet, Cassie Harris and Courtney & Clare Drew. And also survived by nieces Suzanne & Sandee and several more family and also friends that were his family too.

Jim went into the United States Army after high school and served as a member of the Military Police. Then went on to graduate from Michigan State University with a bachelor's degree in hospitality. He moved to Northern Michigan with his family to manage Crystal Mountain Resort and then Sugar Loaf Resort. He took his education further to obtain his Certified Commercial Investment Member (CCIM) designation and also taught Real Estate in several states.

Those who know Jim (aka: Pooka, Reggie, Rubberfooter) say he had an infectious laugh, big hugs, warm baritone voice, sweet golf swing, smooth dance moves and an eagle eye. He embraced life and people in everything he did and loved living. He will be deeply missed. We can be happy knowing his loving son, Guy David, greeted him with open arms and a big smile.
