James "Jim" P. Hicks, 89, of Traverse City passed away peacefully Wednesday, October 19, 2022.
He was born in Flint, July 17, 1933, the only child to Elba and Florence (Grathoff) Hicks.
Jim graduated from Flint Central High School in 1951.

He worked at Dee Cramer, Inc. in heating, cooling and sheet metal his entire career. Upon his retirement he held the position of vice-president.

He was awarded several honors including the designation of president of SMACNA (Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractors' National Association) and chairman of the Flint Area Joint Apprenticeship Committee. Jim's hobbies and interests included spending time with family. He loved golfing, boating, music and movies. He had a great affinity for traveling and computer tech.
Jim loved working with his hands and built the family home. He enjoyed remodeling projects and working with wood as well.

Jim is survived by his wife June; children Gary Hicks, Robert (Kathy), Susan (Mark) Parvin; grandchildren Kyle Hicks, Tamira (Ryan) Newman, Jeffrey (Katlyn), Cary Parvin, Teddy Starr and Becki Bartels; step-children James (Marie) Wyant, Julia (Steven) Shaw and Donald Wyant; step-grandchildren Brandon Wyant, Nicholas Wyant, Katy Seeley, Jeffrey, Laura and Michael Shaw and Courtney and Aaron Wyant; great-grandchildren Tucker and Boston; as well as other extended family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife Jacqueline and son James Patrick Hicks.
In lieu of a funeral, a special celebration of life for Jim will be held in July of 2023, date to be determined.
