James Francis Hintz, age 85, died June 29th 2021 at Munson Hospice House in Traverse City from Alzheimer's.
Jim was born November 30, 1935 to parents Leo and Helen (Wojciechowski) Hintz in Flint, Michigan.
Jim graduated from St. Michael's High School in Flint Michigan. He attended GMI and MIT.
He married Marlene (Schmitt) on May 9th, 1959 and they have 5 children.
Jim worked as an engineer for the Chevrolet Motor Division at the Milford Proving Grounds for 31 years. He did contract work for the proving grounds after he retired.
Jim was an avid sportsman. He was a lifetime member of the Fenton Lakes Sportsman's Club in Fenton Michigan as well as a former member of the Cedar Rod and Gun Club in Cedar Michigan where he worked with local youth. Jim was also a board member of the Birch Lake Association for 49 years and was a runner, swimmer, and bicyclist.
Jim is survived by his loving wife of 62 years Marlene, children Gregory (Megan) Hintz of Petoskey, Susan (Wayne) Stroope of Bear Lake, Catherine Hintz of Swartz Creek, David (Janet) Hintz of Rapid City, and Marcie (Mark) King of Traverse City… grandchildren Kristina, McKenna, and Nicole Ganssley, Karlyn (Alex) Pikunas and Sarah Stroope, Rachel and Bridget Hintz, and Sydney and Zachary Hintz. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Helen Hintz and siblings Norbert, Loren, Leon, John, Joanne Hintz and Dolores (Hintz) Haggerty.
Cremation has taken place. A celebration of his life will be held at St. Francis Assisi in Traverse City on Friday, July 16th, visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 with a memorial service following.
