James "Jim" Howard Lewis, 84, of Traverse City passed away to Heaven on Tuesday, June 13, 2023 with his loving family at his side.
Jim was born on December 24, 1938 in East Detroit to the late Ray A. and Vera A. (Evans) Lewis. He married Lorrayne (Lori) Kay Kuhn in Dearborn on June 24, 1967. Together they lovingly raised two wonderful children Kelly and James. Jim went to Western Michigan University. He and Lori moved to Traverse in 1978 and opened Traverse City Meat Packing Company. He also was a Developer and proudly had many small businesses in the Traverse City Area. He was an avid sports watcher, golfer, and lap pool swimmer. He loved all the Michigan Sports Teams and was always hoping for a Lions winning year. Being with his grandchildren, watching their concerts or sporting events gave him the most joy. Jim will be remembered as a visionary person and could always find the good in any situation. He loved talking to people and making new friends. He was the best husband, dad, grandpa and sports fan who will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved him. Jim is survived by Lori his wife of 55 loving years, his children, Kelly (John) Hollinger, James (Elizabeth) Lewis, grandchildren, John, Brady, Addison and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents and his sisters Iris Allen and Janet Strauss. A memorial gathering will be held on Friday, June 23 at the Elk's Lodge from 1 to 3.
