Obituary

James Edward Irwin, 58, of Traverse City, passed away peacefully at The Magnolia AFC Assisted Living on August 3, 2024.

James was born on March 9, 1966, in Dearborn, Michigan, to the late Elmer and Phyllis (Holman) Irwin.

James was born with Down syndrome and was one of the happiest people you could ever meet. He graduated from Traverse City Central. He continued on working with the Grand Traverse Industries after his schooling.

James was known for his love of giving high-fives and his famous catchphrase, "cool beans," which he used with his nieces. He cherished his family deeply, especially his nieces, whom he loved very, very much.

Food brought immense joy to James. He always knew when it was mealtime and enjoyed scraping his plate clean, never using his fingers but instead his utensil, ensuring he savored every last bite, even if it was just a bit of cottage cheese. James also enjoyed riding his exercise bike.

He will forever be remembered for his love of food and contagious smile.

He is survived by his brothers, John (Lisa) Irwin and Tim (Sherry) Irwin, and his nieces Tiffany (Adam) Bush, Jennifer (Fiancé Kris Eisner) Irwin, Heather (Nate) Davis along with many great nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, classmates and caregivers.

The family would like to thank the caregivers at Magnolia's AFC Assisted Living in Manton for the care and Love James received during his time with them.

Private Family Graveside services will be held on Friday, August 9, 2024, at Greenbrier Cemetery at 10 AM. Kindly share your thoughts and memories with his family at www.reynolds-jonkhoff.com .
