James "Jim" Jacob Hahn, 78, of Traverse City, Michigan, formerly of Mason City, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, March 21, 2026 at Munson Medical Center. Jim was born on November 6, 1947 in Mason City, Iowa to the late Archie and Gertrude (Cross) Hahn. He married the love of his life, Merle JoAnn Lee on March 27, 1971 in Britt, Iowa.
Jim proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War. Jim worked as a letter carrier with the United States Postal for 24 years, retiring in 2008. He moved to Traverse City in 2011 from Mason City, Iowa and worked at MC Sports. He was a member of the National Letter Carriers Union and previously a member of the Teamsters Union in Elk Rapids. In his spare time, Jim enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping. In earlier years, he and his wife sponsored a Swedish exchange student named Johan.
Jim is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Merle, a daughter and three sons; Sharon (Jamie) Murray, Matthew (Diana) Hahn, Anthony (Penny) Hahn, and Bryan Hahn. Also surviving are grandchildren, Ainslee Murray, Elizabeth Hahn and Isaac Hahn as well as very special friends, Richard and Linda Helfrich.
A Celebration of Jim's life will take place from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m., on Saturday, April 18, 2026 at the Hahn family home, 2016 Averills Circle, Traverse City, Michigan 49686. Military Honors will take place at 3:00 p.m., under the auspice of the U.S. Air Force.
