James Lee Peterson of Empire, Michigan was called to his heavenly home on December 9, 2021 at the age of 78. He was born to Joseph and Evelyn Peterson on July 11, 1943 in Toledo, Ohio (51 Jay Street) and baptized at Good Shepherd Church where he served as an altar boy.
Jim attended Ohio University and was a member of the O.U. Hockey Team. He then went on to earn his bachelor's degree in Business Administration at Toledo University. He also served in the U.S. Army at Fort Polk, LA and Fort Bliss, TX.
During his professional career, Jim was a Claims Adjuster at Safeco Insurance Company and then a Senior Claims Supervisor at Amerisure Insurance Company. In his semi-retirement he worked at the Cherry Republic packaging plant in Empire. His dedication as an employee and camaraderie with co-workers characterized him.
Jim's passions were gardening, playing hockey (geezer league in Traverse City), woodworking, fishing, golfing and spending time with family and friends.
Those who knew Jim will always remember his endearing quick wit, his engaging giggle and his sublime smile. He had a sincere love for all people, animals, nature and his country.
Jim is survived by his loving wife Laurel of 52 years; children Heidi West (Dave Finn) and Michelle Redington (Mike); grandchildren Tyler, Haley, Alex West and Thomas, Addison, Parker Redington; brother and sister-in-law John and Carol Peterson.
A memorial service at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Glen Arbor will be held during Jim's favorite time of year: spring planting season (2022).
