James R. Huff, 78, of Traverse City passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 2, 2014 at Munson Hospice House. James was born February 27, 1935 in Grand Rapids to the late Lavern and Lilah (Gibson) Huff. He was married to Cathrine Cross on May 25, 1963 in Dearborn.
Jim graduated from Grand Rapids Catholic Central High School in 1953. He lettered in football, track, and tennis. Jim attended Aquinas College in 1953-54 and 1957-58 majoring in pre-engineering. His schooling was interrupted by his honorably serving in the United States Army 1954-56. Jim then earned a BSE from University of Michigan in 1961 and his Master of Arts from Central Michigan in 1978. He was employed with Mobil Oil in 1961-62. Jim retired from Chrysler Corp. after 34 years as manager of Printing and General Service. Jim was past president and board member of POM II Condo Assoc. in Traverse City, past president and member of Grand Traverse Kiwanis Club, and member of Traverse City Golf and Country Club and the Elks Lodge. Jim organized the Chrysler Retirees' Luncheon. He was an active member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, member of Usher Club and St. Francis Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration Chapel. Jim enjoyed golf, skiing, and gardening.
Jim is survived by his loving wife, Cathrine, a son Patrick (Regina) Huff of Traverse City, a granddaughter, Chrystal Barnard, a great-granddaughter, Madison Lee, two brothers; Bob (MaryKay) Huff of Scottsdale, AZ and Tom Huff of Grand Rapids, a sister-in-law, Marylou Cross and brother-in-law Paul Cross. Also surviving are four nephews and a niece.
A Funeral Mass honoring James will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 8, 2014 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 720 Second St. Rev. Fr. Anthony Citro will officiate.
Friends are welcome to visit with Jim's family on Friday February 7, 2014 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home and at the church on Saturday morning from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass.
