James "Jim" R. Wilhelm, 83, of Traverse City passed away on Friday, December 12, 2014 at his home. Jim was born on January 27, 1931 in Pennsylvania to the late Gertrude (Allen) Wilhelm. He married Sharon Marcoe in 1952. Later they divorced but remain friends. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Jim was a member of the Fraternal Order of Masons
Jim and Sharon owned the Torch Crest Grocery Store. For many years he drove truck for Kellogg Building Supply. Jim loved to drive, for over 20 years he drove dealer trade cars for Bill Marsh and Cherry Capital Cadillac. Other interests he enjoyed were woodworking, classic cars, and gardening, but spending time with his family and friends was his greatest joy.
Jim will fondly remember as "the Best Dad Ever" as well as a wonderful grandpa and great-grandpa he will truly be missed.
Jim is survived by his son and daughter; Robert Wilhelm and Kim Waller, three grandchildren; Michael Waller (and wife Erin), Chad Waller and Emma Rose Wilhelm; two great-grandchildren; Mackenzie and Peyton Waller. Also surviving are many beloved family and friends.
A memorial service honoring James will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 20, 2014 at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home, 305 Sixth Street, Traverse City, with visiting one hour prior. Pastor Justin Grimm will officiate.
