James Rennie, 75, of Cedar passed peacefully on September 30, 2023, with his loving Family by his side. Jim was born on July 28, 1948, in Traverse City to Ferris "Pete" and Marilynn Rennie.
Jim's childhood was spent outdoors and on the water. He had a close relationship with what is now known as Power Island and with his father, helped build the existing trails and caretaker's cabin. Winters were always at Hickory Hills, where he learned to ski and race with the Grand Traverse Ski Club. He went on to help TC Highschool win State Championships and win National USSA Awards.
Jim worked at Sugar Loaf Resort for many years, using his talents as ski tech, ski instructor, grooming, snowmaking and golf mechanic and mower. If you needed a weather report, "just ask Jim!"
He met the love of his life, Karen, while working at the resort. The two shared a deep passion for skiing and the outdoors. Their love of skiing became a central part of their life, creating cherished family memories and adventures on the slopes with their children, Peter and Christina.
In addition to his love for outdoor activities, Jim had a remarkable ability to fix things. Jim was a proud father. He adored his children, instilling in them his values of kindness perseverance and the importance of family.
Karen and Jim married on October 26, 1991, at St. Mary's of Lake Leelanau.
Jim is survived by his wife, Karen, his children, Peter Rennie and Christina Rennie, his sister Lynn Ann (Denny) House, and sister-in-law, Beverly Rennie.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother Charles "Pete" Edward Rennie II.

Jim Rennie will be inducted into the Grand Traverse Ski Club Hall of Fame 2023 at the Annual Benefit Dinner on November 2nd.
