Obituary

James Bernard Whelan Jr., went to his Lord on July 21, 2013. Jim was born in St. Paul , MN on April 11,1937.
After living in Illinois for many years, Jim spent the last 18 years in Traverse City.

Jim is survived by his loving wife, Elizabeth; his children: Sean Whelan of Traverse City; Lynne Whelan, Beverly (Tom) England, and Kelly noble,
All of Chicago, and Michael (Tiffany) Whelan of Indiana. He was the proud grandfather of Brian Whelan, Tommy England,Tricia (Jonathan) Dominguez, Taylor England,
Trevor England, Kristopher Noble and Evan Towns; and great-grandfather to Nola Dominguez. Jim is also survived by his beloved sister Pat (Marty) Strub, and
Brother-in-law Patrick (Eileen) Gallagher. Jim was uncle to Katie Ellis, Karin Strub and Megan and Jimmy Gallagher. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, James Sr. and Beth(Hutchinson) Whelan.

Jim served in the Air Force for close to forty years, with the last in the reserves at Chicago O'Hare Airport. Jim worked for 17 years at Maxbauer Ace Hardware to
"get him out of the house". He was also a member of the American Legion post 35.
Jim Loved God, his family, friends, reading mysteries, building model airplanes, his long suffering Minnesota Vikings, and all things Irish.
Beside his family, Jim's greatest thrill was his trip to Ireland with many family members to stand on the Hill of Tara where Irish High Kings ruled.
with burial on Beaver Island at a later date.
Jim's family sends him on his final journey, with love, as we raise the Parting Glass.
Visitation will be held today from 5pm to 7pm followed by the recitation of the Rosary, A Memorial Mass will be held Thursday July 25, 2013
At St. Francis Catholic Church at 11 AM followed by Military Honors

The family is being served by Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral and Cremation services
In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to the American Legion Post 35
