Jan K. Mebert, 63 of Suttons Bay passed away on Thursday, September 18, 2014 at Munson Hospice House. Jan was born on July 2, 1951 in Leelanau County to the late Joseph and Marcelline
(Salliotte) Heureux. A lifelong resident of Leelanau County, she graduated from Suttons Bay High School and Elkhart Institute of Technology as a chairside dental assistant. Jan was married to Skip Mebert on June 10, 1972 at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Suttons Bay. She ran her own daycare for 32 years. Upon retiring, she worked for Suttons Bay Public Schools and Tom's Food Market in Northport.
Above all, Jan loved spending time with her family and often said "I love my grandchildren to pieces." She was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Jan is survived by her loving husband of 42 years, Skip Mebert, three daughters; Jennifer (Joshua) Kohler of Suttons Bay, Jill Rowley of Traverse City and Joan Mebert of Traverse City, five grandchildren; Madelyn, Morgan, Marissa and Mya Kohler and Preston Rowley. Also surviving are two sisters and a brother; Barbara (Joseph) Kompes of Willowick, OH, Linda Heureux of Traverse City, MI and Alan (Magali
Carrera) Heureux of South Dartmouth, MA.
A funeral mass honoring Jan will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 24, 2014 at St. Francis Catholic Church, 1025 S. Union Street, Traverse City, with visitation one hour prior. Rev. Fr.
Kenneth Stachnik will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider a memorial donation to the St. Francis Catholic Church – Food Pantry.
