Jane Frances Boomer, of Empire, passed away peacefully Friday Dec 23, 2022 at home. She was 90.
Jane is survived by her husband, Robert (Bob), her children Connie Woodcock, John Boomer and Cliff Boomer, Son in Law Bruce Remai and daughter-in-law Marijane Boomer. She was predeceased by her daughter Karen Remai and Son in Law David Woodcock. Also surviving are Jane's dear grandchildren, Kendra Remai, Dana and Josh Boomer, and Tristan, Oliver, Jasper and Sawyer Boomer. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews too numerous to list.
Jane raised four children while partnering with Bob to build a home, a family and a farm for 72 years. Jane is the model of strength, perseverance, and kindness to all those in her reach. She was also very adept to keeping her brood in check.
Growing up near Empire, with 4 brothers and 2 sisters, Jane had to be tough to survive. The family house had no running water, wood heat and an outhouse. Times were tough and they were a tough bunch.
In the kitchen Jane had no match. She kept decades of cherry harvest crews ready to work with daily meals that rivaled any Thanksgiving meal they had seen. She also managed to teach her kids and grandchildren alike, how to handle themselves in an apron. When the work was done, however, Jane was the resident card shark and took no prisoners once the cards were dealt.
When not battling at the card table, Jane was a gardening savant. From her amazing tomatoes to her spectacular flowers, she would grow enough healthy, fresh and yummy garden treats to keep her family happy all year long. Raised in an era when growing your own food was critical, Jane was a canning freezing expert and, oh my the "dill pickles!"
Arrangements are being handled by Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home and cremation services in Traverse City. The family will hold a private ceremony to honor Jane and her remarkable life.
As an expression of sympathy, donations may be mailed to Rose Hill Cemetery, C/O Cliff Boomer. Jane took care of the cemetery for many years. The mowing, cleaning and other duties were extremely important to her. Jane wanted to make sure that all families felt their loved ones were being honored and cared for under her watch.
