Obituary

TRAVERSE CITY — Jane S. Galvin, 88, of Traverse City, died Sunday morning, April 10, 2011, at the home of her daughter following a long illness. She was cared for in a loving way by her daughter and grandchildren.Born March 24, 1923, in Waterloo, Iowa, she was the daughter of the late Earl and Effie (Barnes) Styles. On Nov. 6, 1943, in Gaylord, she married Pat Galvin, who preceded her in death.White living in Gaylord, Jane was very involved in her community through her membership with the Eastern Star, Hospital Auxiliary, serving as a Room Mother during her kids' school years and participating in Girl Scouts. After moving to Traverse City in 1966, Jane continued to share her talents with others by joining Munson Medical Center Auxiliary and Central United Methodist Church, where she was a longtime member. Jane enjoyed all sports, especially golf, painting and traveling.She is survived by her daughter, Nancy F. Carmean, of Traverse City; three grandchildren, Joshua, Kristina and a foreign exchange student, Sandy Leung; along with nieces and nephews.In addition to her parents and husband, Jane was also preceded in death by a son, Craig J. Galvin, who died at the age of 16, and her brother, Stanley Styles.Memorial services will be held in the Chapel of Central United Methodist Central on Friday, April 15, at 11 a.m., with visitation one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Dale Ostema will officiate.Cremation has taken place. Burial will take place at Fairview Cemetery in Gaylord at a later date.
