Jane Marie Grigg, 82, of Traverse City passed away Thursday, February 25, 2016 at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City.
Jane was born on Saturday, August 5, 1933 to the late Gerald Patrick and Mildred Jane (Masterson) Sweeney in Detroit and was very proud of the fact that she was 100% Irish.
Employed by Detroit Edison in the customer service department, it was there that Jane met her future husband, John Robert Grigg. They married on Saturday, January 9, 1954 in Detroit, and together raised five children.
Jane had been active with her husband in the Detroit Edison Boat Club and the family remembers many hours of great times on the Detroit River with the "club". Jane was an accomplished seamstress and had done alteration work for Sims Men's Shop and she also enjoyed caning chairs. An avid golfer, Jane enjoyed the time on the links with her golf league. She also volunteered her time for AA and was a member of the Immaculate Conception Parish in Traverse City since she and her husband moved here in 2011 to be near family. Previously they had lived in the Detroit area, Harsens Island and spent many winters in Port Charlotte, FL. After her husband passed away, Jane became involved with the Bereavement Group at Immaculate Conception. Jane bonded and became friends with many who were on the same journey and found their support immeasurable.
Jane is survived by her children, Stephen (Gail) of Holly, Kathleen (Dan) Barboza of Traverse City, John R. "Jack" (Lori) of Fenton and Anne (Tim) Donn of Traverse City; her grandchildren, Kelly (Chris) Silkers of Holt, Lisa Grigg of Troy, Sarah Boyd of Traverse City, Elizabeth (Alex) Brand of Lansing, Veronica, Connor and Haylie Donn of Traverse City, Michael David Barboza of Traverse City, Timothy John (Hannah) Barboza of Springfield, VA and David and Daniel Grigg of Detroit. Also surviving is her sister Joanne Watko of St. Clair Shores, niece and nephew Tricia Watko of St. Clair Shores and Edward (Cindy) Watko of Richmond, S. C. and a brother in law, Robert (Rita) Grigg of Warren. Jane was preceded in death by her husband, son James, a niece, Jane and a sister in law Betty Clark.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 12 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with visitation one hour prior to the mass. The Rev. Fr. Anthony Citro will preside. Inurnment will take place at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly.
