Jane C. Hardwicke, 87, of Interlochen passed away peacefully on September 27, 2021 at her home.
Jane was born on August 3, 1934 in Minnesota to the late Leslie Dow and Irene (Evans) Croswell.
Jane grew up in Minnesota and earned her Bachelor's Degree in Home Economics from the University of Minnesota.
On June 10, 1956, Jane married Roger "Mick" Hardwicke in Minnesota. Together they shared 45 years before he passed in 2001.
Jane and Mick moved to Michigan in the early 1960's and made Interlochen their home in the early 80's. Jane loved to read and was a believer in the importance of a library to its community. She, with several others, worked to build the original Interlochen Public Library and its successful Friends' group. She later recognized the need for a newer and more accessible building and started the momentum needed to build the new Interlochen Public Library - a testament to her perseverance. She will be remembered for her love of reading, gracious spirit, polite nature, and witty sense of humor.
Jane was preceded in death by her husband Mick; son Carl; special friend Bob Robinson; and siblings Beth Croswell and Leslie Croswell.
Jane is survived by her daughter Mary Beth (Bob Provenzano) Hardwicke and son Scott (Melissa) Hardwicke; grandchildren Travis, Adrianna, Karissa and Evan; sister Mary Johnson; special niece Becky (Marlo Johanson) White; and many other beloved nieces and nephews.
A special thank you goes to Jane's phenomenal caregivers: Kelly, Dena, Evon, and Connie. They made her laugh.
A memorial service will be held in the summer of 2022. Memorial donations in her honor may be directed to the Friends of IPL, 9411 10th St, Interlochen, MI 49643
