Margaret "Jane" Vetter, 93, passed away peacefully on April 26, 2025, in Suttons Bay, Michigan.
Born on May 31, 1931, in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, Canada. Jane was the beloved daughter of Alice O'Toole Vetter and Louis Vetter. Her early years were marked by a strong commitment to education and personal growth. She attended The Convent of the Sacred Heart in Vancouver, British Columbia, before continuing her studies at Marymount Santa Barbara in Santa Barbara, California. Jane later pursued higher education at Notre Dame University in Belmont, California and University of San Francisco in San Francisco, California. She lived most of her adult years and raised her family in the Birmingham, Michigan area.
Throughout her life, Jane found immense joy in the company of her family and friends. She was a devoted mother to Patricia Doering (Ralph) and Robert Smuck (Judi), a cherished grandmother to Sydney Smuck Ely (Ryan), Jack Smuck and Henry Doering. Her love extended to the next generation with the arrival of her great-grandson, Dylan Ely. Jane's family was the center of her world and she treasured every moment spent with them.
Jane had a vibrant social life and cultivated many dear friendships over the years. She had a passion for intellectual pursuits and enjoyed challenging herself with several crossword puzzles a day and playing duplicate bridge as often as she could. Jane was a lifelong avid reader and loved classical music.
She was predeceased by her parents, Alice O'Toole Vetter and Louis Vetter, as well as her beloved sister Patricia Fauser, (John).
Jane's legacy is one of love, warmth and enduring connections. Her memory will continue to bring comfort to those who knew her.
A celebration of life gathering will take place at Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home on Monday July 7th beginning at 11:00AM with visitation one hour prior.
