Jane Ann White, 96, of Williamsburg, died on Sunday, July 3, 2022 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born at home in Yuba, Michigan on September 15, 1925 to the late Albert and AnnaBelle (Weathers) Conant.
She lived her entire life in the Yuba and Elk Rapids area. Jane grew up on a farm on Bates Road in Yuba and moved to Elk Rapids when she married the love of her life, Versil M. 'Huck' White on June 15, 1946 at the Yuba Methodist Church. Jane and Versil were almost late to their own wedding because they were getting ice cream in Traverse City. They moved to their farm on US 31 South of Elk Rapids in 1958 and were the owners of Farmer White's Orchard & Farm Market. Together, they had a magnificent marriage filled with love, hard work, tears, laughter, and lots and lots of ice cream! Jane was a meticulous farmer and could do laps around some of the best men in the orchard. She loved being in her garden, and her flowerbeds were masterpieces for all to enjoy. Not only could she work hard in the orchard, but Jane was the best cook, too. Her food brought people together, and she loved to feed anyone who stopped by, especially her grandchildren—even if it was just a cup of coffee and couple of cookie from the cookie jar that seemed to never go empty. Jane was devoted to her church, the United Methodist Church of Elk Rapids, until it closed several years back. She was a devoted 4-H Leader of over fifty years. Jane taught many students the art of knitting, crocheting, and sewing. Jane was a member of the Yuba Women's Group. She loved to sit in the evening and watch baseball and do needle point or read a book. Above all, her great joy was her faith in Jesus and her family. She once said, the best name was being called Grannie.
Jane is survived by her daughters, Janet (Gary) Flaska, of Cedar, Mary (James) Cooper, of Williamsburg; daughter-in-law, Judy (Mike) Husby, of Kewdain; six grandchildren, Matthew (Meghan) Flaska, Christopher (Sarina) White, Vincent (Allison) Cooper, Amy White, Nicholas Cooper, Timothy Cooper, and honorary granddaughter Aubyn Amos; ten great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.
Jane is proceeded in death by her parents; husband, Versil M. 'Huck' White; son, Vernon C. White; grandson, Nathan J. Flaska; brothers, Carl, Ralph, Gaylord, Gerald, LeRoy, and Albert 'Junior' Conant; sisters Margaret Madroo, and Ernestine Morrison.
