Janet F. Hicks' Obituary
Janet F. Hicks, of Okemos and formerly of Bay City and Traverse City, passed away on July 14, 2021 at the Ingham County Medical Care Facility.
She was born on August 13, 1934 in Flint, MI to the late Harley and Fae Gladys (Poland) Earl. After graduation from Durand High School she continued on for two years at Northwestern Michigan College where she also won the Fulbright Award to study abroad at the University of Paris in France. She spent that educational year traveling all around Europe, then returned to the University of Michigan, Western Michigan University and finished her undergraduate degree at Saginaw Valley State University.
She married Albert Hicks on September 1, 1956 in Traverse City and raised three wonderful children.
She worked many years as a substitute teacher, nursery school teacher and at the Midland County Probate Court's center (Harbor House) where she tutored at-risk teenagers. She was also involved in many civic organizations in Bay City, Michigan such as the League of Women Voters, Town Hall, United Fund, and Lawyers Wives association. And she was very active in the First Presbyterian Church of Bay City.
She had many hobbies but especially enjoyed traveling, reading, golf, tennis and entertaining .
Janet is survived by her children, Mary Katherine Prygoski, Kenneth (Agnes) Hicks and six grandchildren: Matthew (Megan) Prygoski, Jeffrey (Sara) Prygoski, Alicia (Luke Orndorff) Prygoski, Jessica Ann Hicks, Samantha Jungah Hicks, Dylan Jiwon Hicks. She also survived by three great grandchildren; Fiona Prygoski, Jacob Prygoski and Cayson Prygoski
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Albert, daughter Alison, sister Mary Earl Borgerson, brothers Edwin Earl and William Earl and son-in-law Philip Prygoski.
A memorial gathering will take place at a later time. Burial will take place at the Cornell Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to Dementia Society of America®
