Obituary

Janet Alta Hornacek, nearly 92 of Traverse City passed away peacefully on October 20, 2023 at Boardman Lake Glens.

Janet was born on December 19, 1931 at her home in St. Louis, Michigan, alongside her twin brother Jim, to their parents Clare and Alta Oswald.

On December 2, 1950, she married Stanley A. Hornacek in Alma.

In 1969, she and Stan bought Rounds Restaurant on Eighth Street. Under their 28 years of ownership it became a town staple and was beloved by regulars and tourists alike. In 1997, she and Stan sold it to their daughter Toni who continues to own and operate this town favorite.

Stan and Janet loved to travel with the Model A club for many years. While Stan loved the cars, Janet loved the fellowship with the other members.

In her later years, Janet also loved to read. She was a voracious reader and would read just about anything she could get her hands on.

She and Stan also enjoyed being snowbirds and spent several decades in North Fort Meyers during the winter months.

Above all else, Janet will be remembered by her family and friends as a wonderful mother, grandma and great grandma and for her cheerful disposition.

Janet was preceded in death by her parents, husband Stan and twin brother Jim.

Janet is survived by her children Stanley (Vicki) Jr., Antoinette "Toni" (Kevin) Whiting and David (Kim) Hornacek; grandchildren Spencer Hornacek, Michael (Leah) Hornacek, Ethan Hornacek, Natalie (Rylee) Scott, Seth Whiting, Alex Whiting, Candace (Brett) Monro and Chelsea (Tyler) Vandenbosch; and great granddaughter Anna Hornacek.

Private family graveside services will be held at a a later date.

The family would like to extend their great appreciation to all the caregivers at Boardman Lake Glens. Janet loved all of you and we are so thankful for each of you.
