Janet Rose McCormick, 80, of Traverse City passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 12, 2015 at the Grand Traverse Pavilions. Janet was born on February 15, 1935 in Detroit, Michigan to the late John and Theresa (Grasl) Ungelbach. She was married to John F. (Jack) McCormick on September 8, 1956 in Detroit. Janet worked and taught as an x-ray technician at Detroit Memorial Hospital until she and Jack started their family.
In 1986, Janet suffered a severe stroke which left her permanently disabled. In 1998 Janet and Jack moved to Gaylord and in 2002 they moved to Traverse City. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Janet enjoyed arts and crafts, but above all spending time with her family was Janet's greatest joy.
Janet is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Jack, two daughters and a son; Jacqueline (Steve) Wasko of Hinsdale, IL, Jayne (Mick) Winowiecki of Gaylord, MI and John (Tina) McCormick of Gainesville, VA. Also surviving are Janet's nine grandchildren as well as a sister, Mary Jane Wolschon.
Janet's family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you for 13 years of loving care to the staff of the Grand Traverse Pavilions Elm Unit and, especially, to Jessie Hall, her devoted private caregiver.
Friends are welcome to visit with Janet's family on Sunday, November 15, 2015 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home, 305 Sixth St., Traverse City, 49684.
A funeral Mass honoring Janet will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 16, 2015 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 720 Second St., Traverse City, 49684, with visitation one hour prior. Rev. Fr. Anthony Citro will officiate. In accordance with Janet's wishes, cremation will follow.
In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider a memorial donation to Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
