Obituary

TRAVERSE CITY — Janet Eileen Simone, 79, died peacefully Friday, July 23, at Munson Medical Center. Janet was born on June 9, 1931 in Lima, Ohio, to Franklin William and Bertille Elizabeth (Sonderman) Simone. Her growing-up years were in Lima, but in 1949 her family moved to Traverse City in beautiful northern Michigan. Janet started her career at Stromberg-Carlson Tool and Die Co. as an office worker and worked her way up to bookkeeper. Parson Corp. purchased Stromberg-Carlson and Janet became a buyer with the new owners. Some years later with another division of Stromberg-Carlson, C.E.O. Robert Brammer Sr. asked Janet to become their bookkeeper. She worked there until her retirement in 2005.Janet enjoyed her privacy ... reading, being with her animals, listening to music and loving flowers, especially roses. In her younger years, she enjoyed sports. Janet loved her family and being part of her nieces' and nephews' activities, baptisms, birthdays, communions parties, graduations ... just being with family.Janet is survived by her siblings, Joe (Barbara) Simone, Leo Simone, Alice McGahey, Marty Preston and Kathy (Chuck) Jakee; and her many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. Besides her parents, Janet was also preceded in death by her sister, Rose Mary Miller; and her brothers, Jack, Tony and Gerard.Visitation will be held on Sunday, Aug. 1, from 5 to 8 p.m., with a rosary/wake service at 6 p.m., at Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home. Her memorial Mass will be held on Monday, Aug. 2, at 11 a.m., with visitation one hour prior, at St. Patrick Catholic Church.Memorial donations can be directed to the Diabetes Association. The family is being served by Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home.
