Janette Marie Hammond, 93, a life long resident of the Traverse City area passed away peacefully at her home with family by her side on March 9, 2024.
Janette was born on December 4, 1930 to the late William and Nellie Marie (Richardson) Ritola.
On November 24, 1949 she married Jack Elery Hammond.
After graduation from High School, Janette was a supervisor for Michigan Bell. She ran Long Lake Grocery for many years and she also worked in sales for Sears. She also was a kitchen and bath designer for Brown Lumber, a job which she loved very much.
Janette and Jack loved to travel. They each were struck by the travel bug and were known to load up the car and go on a road trip. In her early years, she often took her family camping alongside her sister and her family where many life long memories were made. They also liked to travel all over the country including trips to Alaska, Hawaii and other tropical destinations.
Janette loved the great outdoors with a special fondness for campfires and sunshine. In her free time, she enjoyed reading, having friends and family over to visit and watching the birds. Above all else she cherished her family.
Janette was preceded in death by her husband Jack; her sisters Barbara and Joyce; and her infant son Gregg.
Janette is survived by her children Lynn (Jeff Ameluxen) Larson, Chris (Judy) Hammond, Susan Hammond and Mike (Becky Olson) Hammond; eight grandchildren and many great and great great grandchildren; brothers Terry and John and sister Ricky; and good friends Sandy, Patty and Carol.
The memorial service celebrating her life will take place on Friday, April 5, 2024 at 11:00 am with visitation beginning one hour prior at the Reynolds Jonkhoff Funeral Home.
