Janice Faye Freeman
EMPIRE – Janice Faye Freeman, age 73, of Empire, MI, passed away Monday, April 12, 2021.
Janice was born in Dixon, KY on October 12, 1947 to Everett and Yvetta (Young) Carnal. She grew up mainly in Poole, KY. She graduated from Henderson County High School in 1965.
Janice moved to Flint, Michigan, after marrying her husband, William Freeman, on November 23, 1968. Janice and Bill met while attending Murray State University where Janice earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology. Janice was employed as a Registered Medical Technologist at McLaren Regional Medical Center in Flint for 35 years.
Janice and Bill vacationed on Glen Lake with their children for many years before moving to the area full time in 2004 after her retirement. She was an active member and former president of the Glen Lake Woman's Club. She served as the chairperson for the club's scholarship program for Glen Lake High School students wishing to attend Northwestern Michigan College. Janice was also on the board and an active member of Friends of Glen Lake Community Library as well as a Docent at the Empire Area Heritage Museum.
Janice enjoyed playing golf in the Dunes Golf Club women's golf league, tending to her many flower gardens, spoiling her and Bill's dog Zoey, spending time with her beloved grandchildren, and she was never without a book in her hand.
Janice is survived by the love of her life, her husband of 52 years, William; children, Michael (Aimee Brown) Freeman of West Bloomfield, Kristin (Brian) Leach of Lake Ann; grandchildren, Charles, Madeline, and Elizabeth Freeman and numerous extended family members across the United States. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother.
A memorial service honoring her life will be held at Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City on Friday, June 4, 2021 at 11am.

Janice will be laid to rest at Maple Grove Cemetery in Empire.
